With 31 new cases, the total number of positive cases for COVID-19 in Manipur reached 2,146 while the total active and recovered cases stand at 655 and 1491, official source said on Friday.

With the latest development, the recovery rate reached 69.47 per cent.

In the past 24 hours, 31 persons including 29 male,2 females, were confirmed as new COVID 19 positive cases at Virus Research & Diagnosis Laboratories of RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences), JNIMS (Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences), District Hospitals of Jiribam, Thoubal, says Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, additional director and spokesperson of the state COVID-19 common control centre in a press release on July 24.

They belong to the districts of Churachandpur, Imphal east, Imphal West, 37th Assam Rifles Jiribam, Thoubal and Ukhrul. They are being shifted to COVID care facilities.

Six individuals from the districts of Thoubal and Imphal West are cases without significant outside state travel history.

All rest are returnees from other states, it said.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release said.

In the past 24hours, 31 persons have been discharged from COVID care centres at Meitram in Imphal West, Senapati, Kakching, RD Wing, Lamphel, Thoubal and COVID care facilities at RIMS and JNIMS after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test.

In another development, 227 persons and 23 vehicles were detained in the state violating lockdown norms and altogether fined a sum of Rs 8,100 only as per law, says state police department source.

As of Friday, 314,672 people were screened at various entry points of the state while 75,932 samples were tested for COVID-19, according to the latest report of the state surveillance officer of the integrated disease surveillance programme.

As per the report, 59,124 people have completed their quarantine while 2,891 were still at various quarantine centres in the state.
