Manipur on Friday recorded its 2nd highest single-day spike of 260 COVID-19 cases, bringing the state’s total COVID-19 tally to 10,051, informed official sources.

The highest single-day spike of 270 Covid-19 cases was reported on September 22.

Of the 260 new cases, 240 (145 males, 95 females) are from the general population and 20 are Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel.

The new COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed at different testing facilities in the state.

The positive cases from the general population are from Imphal West, Imphal East, Ukhrul, Noney, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, Churachandpur, Kamjong, Senapati, Jiribam and Tamenglong.

Eight persons out of the general population are returnees from other states while the rest 232 are locals without any significant travel history.

They are being shifted to COVID care facilities.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

In the last 24 hours, one 67-year-old female from Imphal East expired at RIMS due to COVID-19 and other co-morbid conditions.

So far 64 persons have succumbed to the infection.

Meanwhile, 79 persons were discharged from six COVID care facilities after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test.

The cumulative number of positive cases is 10,051 while the numbers of active and recovered cases are 2,306 and 7,681 respectively.

The recovery rate is 76.42 per cent.
