A Manipur journalist, working as a correspondent for a vernacular daily, has allegedly been beaten up by a group of 20 Congress workers.

A media report quoted the police as saying that a case has been registered in connection with the incident.

The incident of assault on the journalist has been reported from Manipur’s Thoubal district.

According to the report, the victim is Elangbam Rameshwar, a correspondent with Naharolgi Thoudang, published from Imphal.

It has been reported that on Sunday morning, around 20 persons, who are stated to be members of the Block Congress in the Heirok constituency under Thoubal district, allegedly raided the house of Elangbam Rameshwar.

The report said the journalist was beaten up by the alleged Congress workers in the presence of his family members.

As per the report, Elangbam Rameshwar is the vice-president of the Thoubal District Journalists’ Union.

Rameshwar was hospitalized as he sustained injuries after being assaulted.

The Thoubal District Journalists’ Union has demanded appropriate actions against those who were involved in the attack.

A number of locals blocked the Heirok road seeking justice for the assaulted journalist.

The report quoted police as saying that they have started an investigation into the incident after registering a case.

However, no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
