A case has been registered by the CBI to probe the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the Manipur Civil Services Mains examinations for 2016.

Sources informed on Monday that CBI registered the case against unidentified Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) officials on the orders of the Manipur High Court.

The mains of the MPSC examination in 2016 was held for the selection of 62 posts which included Manipur Civil Service, Manipur Police Service and allied services.

In October 2019, the Manipur High Court cancelled the examination after a number of aspirants approached the court and said there were irregularities in the selection process.

They also raised the demand for a CBI investigation into the matter.

The Supreme Court in November last year upheld the HC’s order and directed the CBI to conduct a time-bound investigation.

Upon investigating, a number of lapses were found by the investigating agency.

The lapses included missing signatures of examiners on answer sheets, alteration of numbers scored, non-appointment of the controller of examination, absence of a procedure for the evaluation and tabulation of answer sheets.
