Kangla Fort in Imphal

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday launched battery operated vehicles for the physically challenged, aged and children inside the Kangla Fort.

Kangla was the ancient capital of Manipur Kingdom. It is situated at the heart of Imphal, the capital of Manipur. The Kangla Fort stands as an instance of impressive heritage and royal past of Manipur. It is one of the most precious heritage sites of the State and attracts visitors from various parts of the country and abroad every year.

The ruins of the palace on western side of Imphal River serve as a major tourist attraction. The fort is witness to the history of Manipur and it has withstood several attacks and invasions too. It was encircled by large boundary walls which the British forces destroyed. There are temples and burials grounds inside the compound.
