In an attempt to curb the illegal trading activities in Manipur, Shangshak Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles has seized a truck carrying illegal pinewood recently.

This was stated in a press release issued.

“Based on credible input received from a reliable source, a team of Assam Rifles from Shakpao post activated the vehicle check post at Lambui,” said PRO, headquarters inspector general Assam Rifles (South), Imphal in a press release on Sunday.

“A Tata truck carrying 420 cubic feet of pinewood planks was stopped for inspection. On checking it was found that the wood was being transported without a permit for the same,” the statement read.

The wood was obtained from Phalang sawmill and was being illegally transported to Imphal via the Phalang-Shangshak-Lambui-Imphal route, the release stated.

Driver Arunjit Meetei (32) of Khurai village and co-driver of the vehicle along with the illegal consignment and the apprehended vehicle (MN07 C 4145) have been handed over to Forest beat officer at Litan as a rep of DFO Ukhrul,it added.

It is despicable that during the current pandemic situation when the entire civil administration is focussed on ensuring the safety of the people, some inimical elements like these are trying to take undue advantage of the situation and carrying out nefarious activities, the release stated.
