Manipur government and parents committee have appealed to the university community to restore the academic atmosphere in the Manipur University by suspending the ongoing two months old strike in the interest of the students.

The appeals were made by Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar led high power ministerial team and the Manipur University students’ parents committee separately, reports said on Monday.
The academic activities at the Manipur University have been severely affected since May 30 after Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) launched indefinite strike demanding removal of Vice Chancellor Prof A P Pandey over 15 allegations of financial and administrative irregularities.
Manipur University Teachers Association (MUTA) and Manipur University Staffs Association (MUSA) supported the agitation.
In his appeal, Deputy Chief Minister said that the State Government is taking the problem of the Manipur University seriously.
That why the State Government has been working tirelessly to fulfill the demands by constituting a high power committee.
Expressing that bringing normalcy in the university is important as the university holds the future of thousands of students, he appealed to allow the fact finding committee to proceed with their activities.
Assuring that the State Government is ready to take up further necessary steps, if the result of the committee is not satisfactory, he also appealed to All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) to reconsider their stand in the larger interest of the people and particularly in the interest of more than 15,000 graduate students whose examination results are yet to be declared in view of the ongoing impasse.
ATSUM along with All Naga Students Association Manipur and Kuki Students Organization have warned to launch various strikes if the concerned authority fails to take up necessary steps to bring back normalcy to Manipur University by August 6.
On the other hand, Manipur University students’ parents committee felt that the non-declaration of the graduate examination results due to the prolonged university strike is posing a serious hurdle to the students in their future studies as the existing Manipur University and DM University in the state may not be able to accommodate the graduated students for the post graduate courses.
So considering the future of the students, the committee appealed to relax the agitation as the university community can save the career of the students.
It also urged the State Government to work out an amicable solution besides making arrangement for admission of students from Manipur to other universities.
