Manipur tribal body state police inaccurate misleading
The Kuki Inpi Manipur has claimed the statements made by the state police are inaccurate and misleading

Guwahati: The Kuki Inpi Manipur, an apex body of Kuki tribes, has alleged that the statements made by the Manipur police during a recent press conference regarding the prevailing situation in the state, are inaccurate and misleading.

In a press statement issued by Kuki Inpi on Tuesday (September 10, 2024), the tribal body said the Manipur police’s assertion that it operates without ethnic divisions is grossly inaccurate.

It alleged that the police force in Manipur is split as the ‘Meitei Police’ and the ‘Kuki Police’ with jurisdiction and operations segregated by ethnic areas.

It said the claim made by the Manipur police, regarding the use of drones by the Kuki-Zo volunteers, is fundamentally misleading.

It claimed that the Kukis have never used drones for bombings; rather the Meiteis launched drone bombings during an attack earlier this year.

It said the allegations regarding the use of drones by the Kuki-Zo community are an effort to distort the truth and mislead the media, among others.

The tribal body further alleged that there is a disparity in how different groups are characterised by the Manipur government and the state police.

It claimed that the alleged valley-based insurgent groups have been labeled as volunteers, while the Kuki-Zo village volunteers have been termed as militants on several occasions.
