A combined team of Manipur Police working in diverse fields for the detection of illegal immigrants have arrested three suspected Rohingyas during a routine checking exercise at Moreh, the border commercial town of the north-eastern state, 110 km south of Imphal, according to reports reaching Imphal on Friday.

The arrest of the ‘illegal migrant Rohingyas’ was made from DI parking of Moreh Bazar by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Commandoes) Moreh town, Thomas Thokchom along with Officer in Charge of Commandoes Moreh, P Tarunkumar Singh  under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (SP), Tengnoupal district, Dr S Ibomcha Singh at around 5:30 pm on Thursday, police sources said.

The arrested Rohingyas have been identified as Narul Hakim (19), son of Rupa Ali, Md Kalimullah (19), son of Ayub Khan, and Sabir Ahmad (20), son of Md Hasim.

All the three allegedly belong to Baguna village from Rakhine state pf Myanmar.

The arrested individuals told the police that they came from Rakhaine State, Myanmar through Bangladesh and then sneaked into the country through Agartala in Tripura and moved to Imphal.

In Manipur, they had stayed for about a month in Lilong under Thoubal district, the source added.

They have been staying at Moreh town for the last 10 days and were planning to go to Malaysia.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against them at Moreh Police station for necessary steps, the police said.

Last month, Manipur Police stationed at Jiribam district headquarters, 220 km west of Imphal bordering Assam’s Cachar district had arrested three Rohingya women and a human trafficker while they were trying to sneak into Manipur.
