Manipur Guwahati: After three suspected militants were killed in Cachar in a reported shootout with the Assam Police, the Hmar Inpui has condemned the incident and termed it as a case of "extra-judicial killings".

Imphal: A 39-year-old Village Volunteer belonging to the Kuki community was killed and three others got injuries in an exchange of gun firing at Changsang Hill in the Satang area, an inter-district of the Kangpokpi and Imphal East district on Tuesday, the police said on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Demkhogin Khongsai (39), son of Lhunkam Khongsai, a resident of Saikul village of Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.

The injured trio was given first aid at Saikul health centre and then transported to Kangpokpi for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the Committee on Tribal Unity announced that the burial ceremony of the Kuki-Zo martyr Demkhogin Khongsai would be performed at the Martyrs Cemetery, Kangpokpi district. The Committee appeals to all CSOs, village chiefs, youth organizations, women’s wings, etc. to attend the burial ceremony to pay the highest tribute and honor to the fallen martyr.

The Committee further announced that no heavy vehicles will ply along the National Highway during the burial ceremony which will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday while all shops and business establishments in the district will remain closed for the day.

Notably, the communal violence started on May 3, 2023, and over 200 individuals from two warring communities lost their lives so far.
