A seven-day basic course in news reporting under the auspices of State Institute of Journalism (SIJ), Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Government of Manipur was inaugurated at Lamka Press Club in Manipur’s Churachandpur district headquarters on Monday.

The inaugural function was attended by assistant commissioner to Deputy Commissioner Churachandpur, Khaikhopau Ngaihte and Joint Director W Phajatombi of Information and Public Relations as the chief guest and functional president respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, assistant commissioner Khaikhopau Ngaihte said that the training course is well-timed. He said it is very necessary to hold such trainings in the face of proliferation of social media and social media journalists.  He exuded strong confidence that the course would immensely benefit the trainees as they get the opportunity to be trained under resourceful persons who have vast and wide knowledge and experiences in the field of journalism.

Amongst others, the inaugural function was attended by course coordinator Seema Sanjenbam of SIJ, District Information Officer Th Mangminthang Gangte of Churachandpur; Editor  Snehprabha Sagolsem of IPR, Assistant Professor Thangkhanlal Ngaihte of Churachandpur Government College; Secretary Nengkhanlun Samte of Manipur Hills Journalists’ Union, secretary M Kaimuanthang of Churachandpur Working Reporters’ Union.

Resource persons ranging from research scholar, college teachers and experienced and award winning journalists will deliver lectures daily throughout the seven-day course.

About 40 participants – drawn from students and working journalists – have registered participation.

The course will conclude on January 19.
