Guwahati: A day after protesting students engaged in a scuffle with the security forces during a march to Raj Bhavan, Manipur Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Wednesday (September 11, 2024) left state capital Imphal for Guwahati in Assam.

Meanwhile, the Manipur University has postponed all the postgraduate and undergraduate examinations till further orders.

The varsity in a notification said the dates for rescheduled examinations will be announced soon.

Lakshman Prasad Acharya is Governor of Assam with additional charge of Manipur.

Students clashed with the security forces on Tuesday during their march to the Raj Bhavan.

The protestors attempted to march towards the Raj Bhavan to demand the removal of the state police chief and security advisor to the Manipur government.

The security forces had to resort to firing of tear gas shells in order to disperse the protesting students.

Over 55 students were reportedly injured in scuffle with the security forces.

Governor Acharya met student representatives the same night.
