Manipur government run model residential schools will be set up in seven selected districts besides constructing transit accommodations for teachers/government employees at 21 identified places in hill districts.
This was announced by Chief Minister N Biren Singh while speaking at the State Level Teachers’ Day function here on Wednesday.
Biren said the first session of Dhanamanjuri University would begin from this year. Moreover, the Manipur Legislative Assembly had passed the Manipur International University Bill, 2018 recently, he said while adding that the number of students going outside the State to pursue higher studies would come down once these two varsities commence its sessions.
Informing that many school drop-outs had been re-admitted under State Government’s Lairik Tamhansi scheme, he said 752 children had been re-admitted in Class I to VIII, and another 876 children in Class IX to XII besides being given free text books to 10,000 students.
Regarding alleged assault of All Manipur Students’ Union volunteers by suspected NCSN (IM) cadres at Nungba on September 3, he said necessary search operations to nab the culprits had already begun in the area. Urging all concerned not to resort to any activity which may incite communal tension, he said that the culprits involved in the Nungba incident would be booked as per the law of the land. On the abduction of some people of Zeliangrong community, one person had already been nabbed, he added.
Regarding the fresh issues in Manipur University, he said the matter would be resolved in consultation with the Central Government soon.
In his speech, Education Minister Th Radheshyam said that the main architects of the society are teachers, and they should be the catalyst of a positive change. A big challenge is being faced by the Education (S) Department as around 400-500 teachers attain service superannuation annually and no teacher had been recruited since 2011,he added.
Commissioner (Education-S and Technical and Higher Education) H Deleep also attended the function.
State Teachers’ Awards which carries carries a shawl, a citation and cash prize of Rs. 10,000 each, were also presented to 10 outstanding teachers at the function. Recipients of the award were O Geetarani of Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School, Kh Keshokumar of Modern Primary School, W. Jyotsana of Eastern Ideal High School, I Usharani of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy, W Ibomcha of Ningthoukhong Higher Secondary School, Shri K. Pukeni of Oinam Hills High School, S. Ibohal of Willong High School, L Paomang of Tuibong Govt. Junior High School, KL Warson Anal of Chakpikarong Higher Secondary School and H. Premkumar of Toupokpi High School.
