Manipur govt. conducts training on three new criminal laws.

Imphal: A seminar-cum-training programme of Master Trainers of the three new Criminal Laws of India was conducted by the Law and Legislative Affairs Department, Government of Manipur at Sangai Hall, Hotel Imphal by the Classic, North AOC, Imphal.

Speaking at the event, Vineet Joshi, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur said that the three new laws, namely, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 enacted by the Parliament, which will come into force on 1st July, 2024.

He asserted that through the three laws, the Government of India has tried to give justice to its citizens.

Taking part in the programme, Rajiv Singh, IPS, Director General of Police, Manipur, pointed out the critical role of media including print, electronic and social media in disseminating information on the three new criminal laws to the public.

He further urged them to take extra initiatives in ensuring that only the correct information reaches each individual of the state.

In the second session, a presentation of a paper on three new Criminal Laws was given by Resource person Ch. Momon Singh, Assistant Professor, LMS Law College, DMU.

Another presentation of a paper on three new Criminal Laws, their perspectives, roles, functions and responsibilities of stakeholders etc., was made by resource person Justice Kh. Nobin Singh, Former Judge, High Court of Manipur, Director, Manipur Judicial Academy.

The session also witnessed a PowerPoint presentation by Suzane Thingbaijam, Deputy Secretary (Law), Government of Manipur.

In the third session, an interaction programme was held with Justice Kh. Nobin Singh, Former Judge, High Court of Manipur, Director, Manipur Judicial Academy as Moderator no. 1 and Ch. Momon Singh, Asst. Professor, LMS Law College, DMU as Moderator no. 2, wherein Justice Kh. Nobin concluded the programme by announcing recommendations.

The event was also attended by Justice Kh. Nobin Singh (Retd.), Director, Manipur Judicial Academy; Ch. Momon Singh, Asst. Professor, LMS Law College, DMU and Smt. Nungshitombi Athokpam, Commissioner (Law), Government of Manipur, lawyers and police officials.
