Security forces recover firearms and explosives in Kangpokpi district.

Imphal: A joint operation involving search and area domination conducted in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Manipur’s districts resulted in the recovery of arms and ammunition and various warlike stores on Friday, according to a police report issued on Saturday.

Acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of weapons and ammunition, a combined team of Kangpokpi district police and Assam Rifles conducted search operations near Joupi hills under New Keithelmanbi police station on Friday and recovered several weapons including explosives.

The Kangpokpi district is predominantly inhabited by the Kuki-Zo community which is now engaging ethnic violence with the people living in the valley of the state.

The combined team conducted the search operation from 6 am till 8 am and recovered one M16 with magazine, one 9mm pistol with three rounds, and two 36 HE hand grenades.

The recovered items were handed over to the concerned police station for further legal proceedings, the report added.
