Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) needs to reach out to all women including those who reside in the far flung areas for any awareness programmes, activities and seminar conducted for the welfare of them as the present State Government firmly believes in inclusive development.

This was observed by Manipur Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen while delivering her speech during the inaugural function of the two-day state-level seminar on the topic ‘Promotion and Welfare for Women with Disabilities’ in Imphal on Monday.

The seminar was organized by Manipur State Commission for Women(MSCW) under the aegis of National Commission for Women, New Delhi.

Highlighting that there are many issues and challenges faced specially by those differently-abled women in the state, minister Nemcha said the topic ‘Promotion and Welfare for Women with Disabilities’ chosen for this seminar is apt in present scenario since women and children are often tagged as the ‘vulnerable sections’ of the society.

She also highlighted the various schemes implemented by the State Social Welfare Department for the welfare and uplift of women of Manipur especially disabled women, destitutes, divorced, widows etc.

She firmly believed that through such schemes and programmes the differently abled persons of the State will be empowered.

She also asserted that the Union Government too have introduced many innovative schemes including scholarship for person with disabilities, providing employment to persons with disabilities, assistance to disabled persons for purchase/fitting of aids and appliances, schemes of Deen Dayal Disabled Rehabilitation which is aim to promote voluntary action for person with disabilities, national award for the employment of person with disabilities, etc.

Lauding MSCW for working selflessly for the empowerment of women in the State, she added that the commission has solved 666 cases out of the total 701 cases received.

In her presidential Speech, Chairperson of MSCW, Dr K Sobita Devi expressed that the objective of organizing this seminar is not just to strengthen the differently-abled women about their spiritual power, adorned in their mind and body, but also to overcome all the agonies and hurdle that they may face in the future by sharing, learning and gaining essential knowledge pertaining to their rights.
