A colourful musical event was organized under the theme ‘Roots – A musical Journey of North East Folk Music and Instrument’ at J N Dance Academy of Dhanamanjuri University Campus in Imphal on Wednesday.

Department of Art and Culture Manipur, Manipur Tourism and Hero’s Foundation in collaboration with Mizzima media group Myanmar jointly organized the event which aims to promote friendship between Myanmar and Northeast India and as an initiative to understand the music of north-eastern states.

The formal opening of the musical event was attended by Manipur arts and culture minister L Jayentakumar, Art & Culture director A Shivadas Sharma, director of information and public relations H Balkrishna Singh, Director Tourism W Ibohal Singh, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, minister Jayentakumar lauded the artists of the north-eastern states and said that the north-eastern states are rich in art and culture. The art and culture of these states are far more superior in nature than South East Asian countries, he added.

The concept of War Museum has been replaced by the new phenomenon of Peace & Cultural Museum. The Government has been doing its best to uplift the current status of our indigenous culture. The emotional and cultural ties between Manipur and other Asian countries have been far better than before. It is because of the good deeds and hard work of our talented artists that the state is shining before other states of India, he added.

Cultural performances from different renowned artists from Myanmar and other states were also showcased as a part of the programme.

After the opening of international gateway in August last year through Moreh, Tamu border, there have been more activities between the north eastern state and Myanmar bridging the gap between the two countries.Taking advantage of the new development, the Myanmar based Mizzima media group  has started to focus on promoting better understanding through culture.

Some months ago, Mizzima Media Group also recorded videos of different foods of Manipur which were later broadcasted through their channel in Myanmar with subtitles.
