Guwahati: The Union government has directed the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to dispatch two more battalions comprising 2,000 personnel to crisis-hit Manipur.

While a battalion of the paramilitary force is reportedly being sent from Telangana’s Warangal, another is being moved from Jharkhand’s Latehar.

The battalion sent from Warangal will be headquartered at Churachandpur district’s Kangvai and the unit moved from Latehar will be stationed around the state’s capital Imphal.

These two battalions, comprising personnel having undergone training in different internal security duties, will additionally need logistical, equipment and anti-drone technology.

The 16 battalions of CRPF, currently stationed in Manipur in the wake of the violence that erupted in May 2023, completed establishment of their operational bases in the districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Kangpokpi, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Jiribam and Noney the previous week.

They have been instructed to maintain operational compactness and ensure better command, control and supervision over the deployed companies.

Two battalions of the Assam Rifles were relocated from the violence-hit state a few days ago for operational duties in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the Northeast.
