Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday appealed to the Opposition in Tripura to work together for the betterment of Tripura. He was addressing the swearing-in ceremony of the first BJP government in the history of Tripura after the demolition of the red bastion in the region by the saffron brigade.

“Our team is fresh and new and they (the Opposition) have the experience. These two powers should work together for the betterment of Tripura,” he said.

In fact Prime Minister Narendra Modi kept his poll promise and attended the swearing-in ceremony on Friday. He reached the venue at Assam Rifles grounds directly from the airport. Friday’s swearing in was a departure from usual oath-taking ceremonies in Tripura that have so far taken place at the Raj Bhavan. Apart from Modi and party president Amit Shah other BJP stalwarts like L K Advani and Murali Manohar Joshi were also there in the oath taking ceremony.

“Good governance is our priority and ‘people’s participation and people’s democracy’ is the mantra we work with,” the Prime Minister said and added, “This government is for all; whether they voted for us or not.”

Describing March 9 as the “historic day” for Tripura, the Prime Minister said, “It feels like the state is celebrating Diwali. We are lighting the lamp of progress and prosperity. There is enthusiasm everywhere. I congratulate all those who have taken oath and wish them the very best as they begin their work.”

The BJP-IPFT alliance that demolished the Left bastion in the Northeast, sworn in on Friday with Biplab Deb as the first BJP Chief Minister and Jishnu Debbarma as his deputy in Tripura.

The Prime Minister, in his speech, said, “I have come alone and visited north east more than 25 times   even after the independence.  No other Prime Minister has visited the region like me. But my visit was not for vote.”

“In the history of India, there are some elections that will always be discussed. The 2018 Tripura elections will be one such example. People will continue to discuss these polls,” Modi said.

“We follow cooperative federalism. No matter whose government it is but janta belongs to country,” the Prime Minister added.

Apart from CM Biplab Kumar Deb, Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Barman others who took oath of office included Narendra Chandra Debbarma, Ratan Lal Nath, Sudip Roy Barman, Manoj Kanti Dey, Mewar Kumar Jamatia and Santana Chakma.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb expressed his gratitude to the BJP leadership besides the people of Tripura for giving an opportunity to work for development of the state.
