Immediately after the formal declaration of Left Front candidates for the Lok Sabha polls 2019, the supporters of CPI (M) launched campaigning for its candidates.
Hundreds of CPI(M) cadres along with MP Sankar Prasad Datta, who has been renominated as the candidate for the party from West constituency in coming Lok Sabha elections, took part in a mass rally on Tuesday afternoon.
The rally started from West Tripura district office of the CPI (M) and passed through the streets of capital Agartala as they raised slogans in support of the Left Front.
Earlier, the Left Front declared the renomination of its both sitting MPs for contesting in coming Lok Sabha polls in the state.
Left Front convener Bijan Dhar during a press conference on Tuesday at CPI (M) headquarters formally declared the name of Jitendra Choudhury as the contestant from the East Tripura (ST) parliamentary constituency and Sankar Prasad Datta for West Tripura parliamentary constituency.
In Tripura, for the first time, the parliamentary polls for two seats are taking place in two phases.
While polling for the West Tripura seat shall take place on April 11 and East on April 18 in the second phase.
Dhar accompanied by other LF leaders also reiterated that they have sought the intervention of Election Commission of India (ECI) to create conducive atmosphere and rules of democracy in Tripura before the ensuing Lok Sabha elections and had requested the chief election commissioner to ‘protect the democracy in Tripura’.
Dhar alleged that the last five years of Modi government at the Centre, the working class, especially the farming community, is the worst sufferers.
The CPI(M) leader hoped that they would win both the seats on the ground that the people of the state have got the real taste of the BJP-IPFT government during the last one year after the Left Front was ousted.
He said during this one year none of the pre-Assembly poll promises made by the BJP has been fulfilled rather people have lost jobs, farmers are under debt, no new employment has been created and hence, now people of the state have realised their mistakes and want to oust the Modi government and form a secular government at the Centre.
On seat understanding with the Congress like in West Bengal, the CPIM leader said there is no such possibility in Tripura as ground realities are different.
