Team India captain Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both of which made centuries, helped India win the first One Day cricket match of the 5-day ODI series against West Indies at the ACA Cricket Stadium, Barsapara in Guwahati on Sunday.

India won the ODI by 8 wickets and with this victory India lead the five-match series 1-0.

As per a TOI report, skipper Kohli (140) and Rohit Sharma notched up centuries to help India chase down a mammoth 323-run target in just 42.1 overs. Rohit and Ambati Rayudu remained unbeaten on 152 and 22 respectively.

The second ODI between India and West Indies will be played in Vizag on October 24.

West Indies, after being asked to bat, post a challenging 322 for eight wickets with Shimron Hetmyer’s 106-run knock off just 78 balls.

Chasing a target of 323, Kohli and Rohit stitched a 246-run stand for the second wicket – highest for India
while batting second in ODIs – to take the hosts closer to victory before the former was dismissed by Devendra Bishoo in the 33rd over.

With Oshane Thomas struck to dismiss Shikhar Dhawan, India suffered a blow in the second over.

Earlier, Hetmyer put to sword an under strength Indian attack to raise his third ODI hundred.

The report also stated that Hetmyer brought up his half-century in 41 balls and raced two fifty plus partnerships with Rovman Powell (22) and skipper Jason Holder (38).

Hetmyer notched up his century by lofting Mohammed Shami for a six over extra cover. While he used brute force against the pace, Hetmyer also looked fluent against the spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja before being dismissed by the latter after immediately reaching the milestone-mark.

Virat Kohli was declared as the Man of the Match.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also witnessed the match and was present at the prize presentation ceremony.
