Three days after walking free from Goalpara jail, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) adviser Akhil Gogoi was on Saturday admitted to a hospital in Golaghat after he complained of fever.

The 41-year-old KMSS chief was taken to Swahid Kushal Konwar Hospital in Golaghat on Saturday morning and his condition is stated to be “stable” now, the hospital said, adding he is “under observation”. After spending 105 days in jail, Gogoi finally walked free on Wednesday.

Detained under the National security Act (NSA) in September and then slapped with additional charges including sedition, Akhil was granted bail by a lower court in Goalpara on Tuesday after the Gauhati high court earlier absolved him of NSA charges besides granting bail on sedition case registered at Moran police station in Dibrugarh district by a lower court.

Immediately after coming out of prison, Akhil had blasted the ruling BJP-led government and termed it ‘fascist’. Jubilant supporters and members of KMSS welcomed their leader and vowed to continue their protest against any anti-public policy of the state government.

However, the news of the KMSS chief’s illness has left his supporters with anxious.
