Kanhaiya Kumar

In a major political development, CPI leader and former JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar has met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

As per a report, if everything goes well, Kanhaiya will join hands with the grand old party very soon.

The negotiations are believed to be in the final stages.

Kumar is upset with the CPI leadership after a censure motion was passed against him for indiscipline at a party meeting held in Hyderabad in January this year.

CPI leader met Gandhi on Tuesday and they have reportedly discussed his entry into the Congress, Indian Express reported.

As per reports, Kumar is keen to play a key role in Bihar politics.

If Kumar, who is known for his oratory skills, joins the Congress, the party could also use him for campaigning in Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh.

Kanhaiya had contested Lok Sabha elections in 2019 on a CPI ticket from Bihar’s Begusarai. He, however, lost to BJP’s Giriraj Singh

Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani is also in touch with the Congress leadership.
