For better coordination among various stake-holders and discuss over organizing a mock exercise as part of an awareness drive on disasters like earthquake, a meeting was held at the Pragnya Bhavan in Agartala on Thursday.

The meeting was organized by the State Revenue Department jointly with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) under the Home Ministry.

The multi-State mock drill has been aimed at spreading awareness on disasters for better management during crisis situation and to reduce loss of lives and property through disaster preparedness.

Tripura’s Revenue Minister Narendra Chandra Debbarma, representatives from the NDMA, security personnel from various agencies like National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Assam Rifles, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) besides various line department participated in the meeting.

Debbarma said that disaster management is the highest priority of the central government so that lives and property can be saved during natural calamities through sensitization in which Tripura cannot lag behind as the State is highly vulnerable towards natural disasters.

Meantime, Brig (Retd) Kuldip Singh, Consultant, NDMA viewed that the response during disaster across the globe should be pre-structured and pre-trained so that during such situations, people should know how to response immediately and that was the main aim of the meeting.
