The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has recently announced that Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) courses cannot be offered in the same institute.

“Over a period of time, deemed to be universities have added PGDM course under the banner of ‘Management Programme’ in contravention of norms,” AICTE added.

According to a circular released last week by the technical and management education regulator of the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry, PGDM courses can be run by stand alone institutions, which were neither university nor affiliated to any university like the prestigious Indian Institute of Managements (IIM).

“Central, state, private universities and institutions deemed to be universities that are running PGDM programme concurrently with MBA under the banner of management programme are requested to convert PGDM courses as MBA completely and comply with the AICTE norms,” AICTE added.
