The Central Government has said that the 540.586 km long unfenced international border between India and Bangladesh will be completed by March next year.
Disclosing this in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said that his government is giving a lot of attention for completing the fencing work along the Indo-Bangla border.
Rijiju said on Tuesday that out of the total 4096.70 km Indo-Bangla border, 2785.554 kms have been fenced and the remaining would be fenced by March 2019.
“The government has sanctioned to fence a total of 3326.14 kms border,” said Rijiju.
The Minister further informed that out of the total 2289.70 km long Indo-Pak border, 2004.66 kms has been completed. The remaining portion would be completed by March 2020.
Amid unabated infiltration from across the border, the statement given by Rijiju assumes significance.
Meanwhile, the BSF has been put on alert to stop any possible infiltration.
“Around 36,000 Rohingyas are present in various parts of the country and the BSF has stepped up vigil against illegal influx into India as their links with terror organisations cannot be ruled out,” said a senior home ministry official.
The BSF has apprehended 87 Rohingya along the Indo-Bangla border since the beginning of this year till October 31. As many as 76 Rohingyas have been sent back to Bangladesh.
