Manipur Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam along with Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister and the MLA of Kangpokpi constituency Nemcha Kipgen on Saturday inaugurated five schools located in and around Kangpokpi district.

The newly-inaugurated schools are Saraswati Hindi Upper Primary School, Tuijang Part II Upper Primary School, Saikotjang Primary School, Chanmari Primary School, Thonte Primary School and Mokuli Primary School.

The schools, constructed under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Manipur, were inaugurated as part of the ‘Inauguration Fortnight’ to commemorate the first anniversary of the first BJP-led government which will be organised on March 15.

Speaking at the function, Minister Radheshyam said, “Education is the backbone for a progressive and development of our society. It is, therefore, the duty of every individual to provide the best infrastructure school for better learning and teaching of the children.”

He further stated that schools are considered as holy places where children from different communities irrespective of caste, creed and religion all come to get education. It is the place where the lives of the young children are nurtured and shaped, he added. He later appealed to the locals and concerned officials to consider the schools as their own belongings.

In her presidential speech, Nemcha Kipgen said, “Education sector is one of the most important sectors in shaping the future of the masses.” She appealed to all concerned to extend cooperation and consider the newly-inaugurated school buildings as their own assets. She further drew the attention of all the concerned staff members to carry out their duty wholeheartedly.

The ministerial team also paid a visit to the Keithelmanbi Government High School. Accepting a memorandum submitted to upgrade the Keithelmanbi Government High School to a Higher Secondary, the State Education Minister said that he would discuss the matter with the Chief Minister and assured that he would try to fulfil this dream of the Keithelmanbi locals as soon as possible.

Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam also stated that once the school is upgraded, students from the nook and corner of the district would be able to receive higher education.

Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Chandren, Additional Deputy Commissioner Balkrishna Heisnam, Sub-Divisional Officer Teresa Tangpua, concerned officials, staff members and students also attended the function.
