Akshat Jain, an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has secured second position in the United Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2018, the results of which were declared on Friday.

23-year-old Akshat who hails from Jaipur, graduated with a Bachelor of Design (BDes) degree from the prestigious engineering institute in the year 2017.

As per reports, his father is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and his mother is an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer.

Akshat’s father DC Jain is the Joint Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi.

His mother Simmi Jain is posted as an ADG of National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN) in Jaipur.

Akshat studied in Jaipur’s India International School and had scored 94 per cent in his Class 12 board examination.

Akshat said that his parents had motivated him to join the civil services as he wanted to serve the society.

The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2018 was conducted in June, 2018.

10, 65,552 candidates had applied for the examination, out of which 4, 93,972 candidates actually appeared.

A total of 10,468 candidates qualified for appearing in the Written (Main) Examination which was held in September– October, 2018.

A total of 1994 candidates qualified for the Personality Test conducted in February-March, 2019.

A total of 759 candidates (577 men and 182 women) have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various services.
