A team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) Police Station in Manipur seized a huge consignment of opium weighing seven kilograms worth Rs 5.6 lakh from NH-2 near Trinity Hotel in Senapati district on May 23.

Police arrested two youths in this connection for their alleged involvement in drug smuggling.

Both the drug traffickers have been identified as 36-year old Subash Gurung of Sidam Nepali village, Mao Karong and 54-year old Parsuram Gurung of Oklong Khunou in Senapati district.

“The team seized three and four kilograms of opium from their possession respectively. The approximate value of the seized drugs is Rs 5, 60,000 in the local market, PRO of state police department says in a press release. A case has been registered against the two individuals at NAB police station and investigation has already begun.

Meanwhile, acting on specific inputs, another team of NAB seized around one gram of heroin from a woman and arrested her during a search operation at Matripukhri area near Imphal under Imphal East district.

“During the search operation, one 37-year old mobile drug seller, Reimichon Tangkhul wife of Shangam Tangkhul of Hang village in Ukhrul district, at present residing at Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai was arrested,” Manipur Police stated in a press release.

A case has been registered against the accused at NAB police station.
