A group of 16 Haj pilgrims on Tuesday were accorded a ceremonial send-off in Kokrajhar.
Doneswar Goyary, Executive Member for Urban and Town Development of Bodoland Territorial Council on Tuesday was present at the ceremonial send-off programme for the Haj pilgrims at the Madrassa in Kokrajhar.
The ceremony was organized by the Northeast Minority Students’ Union (NMSU). Out of 16 pilgrims, nine are men and seven women.
Goyary handed over headscarf, skull caps and burkha to the pilgrims.

Rajen Singh, Superintendent of Police of Kokrajhar was also present at the ceremony, and wished all 16 Haj pilgrims a pleasant journey to Mecca and for their safe return to home.
Talking to reporters, Bradul Islam president of Northeast Minority Students’ Union said the 16 pilgrims from the Kokrajhar district were going for Haj to pray for peace and prosperity.
“They (the pilgrims) are going to pray for peace and development for the people of Bodoland and Assam,” Islam said.

Islam also slammed the RSS and Bajrang Dal for trying to destabilize peace in Assam by creating some unwanted problems, and especially for forcing people to chant Jai Sri Ram slogans.
“We are hopeful that the Haj pilgrims would offer their prayers in Mecca with full dedication and restore peace in Assam,” Islam said.
