Massive hailstorm hit several places in Meghalaya on Friday. Hailstorm caused severe damages at Riangdo under West Khasi Hills district Friday afternoon.

Hailstorm blew away rooftops of several houses.  Riangdo is situated around 50 km from Boko and about 135km from Shillong.

Hailstorm also caused severe damages at Mawshynrut, Mynso and Nartiang.

District administration is taking stock to assess the extent of damage. Except extensive damages to houses, no casualty is reported so far.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma took stock of the situation in the wake of severe rain and hailstorm in different parts of the state.

He personally spoke to DCs of several districts to get first hand information of the situation and asked the Disaster Management and Revenue Department to assess the situation.

“All possible measures will be taken to provide relief to the affected families,” the Chief Minister said.

He has directed the Chief Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary Revenue and Disaster Management to immediately submit a report.
