Vijay Rupani on Saturday tendered his resignation as the chief minister of Gujarat.

Rupani resigned as chief minister at a time when the Assembly election in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state is just six months away.

Rupani has not revealed what prompted him to step down.

Vijay Rupani thanked the BJP top brass and Prime Minister Modi.

“I believe that now this journey of the development of Gujarat should proceed under the leadership of the prime minister with new enthusiasm and new energy. Keeping this in mind, I am resigning from the responsibility of the chief minister of Gujarat,” he said.

Over the year, the BJP has dumped three Chief Ministers from Karnataka and Uttarakhand, now Gujarat.

His resignation follows that of BS Yediyurappa in Karnataka in July and a double whammy in Uttarakhand, where Tirath Singh Rawat quit barely four months after replacing Trivendra Rawat.
