BJP national president Amit Shah on Saturday kick-started Lok Sabha poll campaign in Tripura raising question over formation of a grand alliance by the opposition parties.

The Bharatiya Janata Party president also predicted that a Government thus formed will be a ‘majboor sarkar’.

Shah said this while addressing a huge gathering of BJP workers at Agartala, the capital of Tripura, on Saturday afternoon.

A report published on Saturday by Indian Express quoted BJP president Amit Shah as saying at the programme on Saturday: “Some parties in opposition are trying to form an alliance (gatbandhan). If a ‘gatbandhan’ government is formed, it will be a ‘majboor sarkar’ (helpless government). A ‘majboot sarkar’ (strong government) can be formed only under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

The national BJP president, soon after landing at Agartala, took a chopper to Udaipur in Gomati district where he offered prayers at Mata Tripurasundari Temple, which is known as one of the 51 Hindu ‘shaktipeethas’ of the country.

Later, the BJP chief also addressed a ‘panna pramukh sammelan’ at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala.

The programme was also attended by Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, other members of the State Cabinet, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) chairman Himanta Biswa Sarma among others.

Amit Shah urged the people of Tripura to vote BJP to power in the two Lok Sabha seats in Tripura.

Shah said: “Prime Minister Modi works 18 hours a day. He comes from a poor family and works tirelessly for the country. After five years in office, nobody can raise a single allegation against him.”

He reiterated that only Modi can lead a ‘majboot sarkar’.

While lashing out at the Congress-led opposition alliance, Shah questioned: “What is the ‘neeti’ (policy) of this alliance? Who is its ‘neta’ (leader)? Who will run their government?”

Amit Shah told the BJP workers to “build close coordination with every single person in the state and make sure that both Lok Sabha seats from Tripura are gifted to Narendra Modiji in 2019”.

Shah expressed confidence that the saffron party will win at least 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in the 8 northeastern States in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls 2019.

Recalling the surgical strike, Shah told the BJP workers: “Only the USA and Israel were known to avenge their soldiers’ death. Prime Minister Modi has made India the third country in the world to do so and with this India has gained more respect in the world.”

BJP general secretary Ram Madhav, who was also present on the occasion, said the party would emerge victorious with single majority and will win more than 300 seats in the coming Parliament elections.

Later, addressing a press conference, Shah said the BJP would go to Lok Sabha polls with the issue of development as the main agenda.

However, the BJP national president said the saffron party would also stick to the agenda of building Ram Temple at Ayodhya as per legal and constitutional provisions.

Earlier, Amit Shah was received by Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on his arrival in Agartala.
