Imphal: Manipur Cabinet acknowledging the important role of the state forces and commandos in containing the prevailing situation in this strife state has approved a monthly compensatory allowance of Rs. 5, 000 to the Manipur commandos and Rs. 3, 000  to those who are serving in the difficult and vulnerable areas of the state.

This was stated by Manipur IPR Minister Dr. Ranjan Singh in a statement on Friday.

To contain the ongoing violence between two warring communities that cost the lives of over 200 persons so far, the governments have deployed over 80,000 forces at present in the state.

Recognizing the role of the Village Defence Forces (VDFs) of the state home department, the Cabinet with Chief Minister N Biren Singh in the chair at his office on Friday agreed to extend the engagement for them for one more year of their services i.e. from 1st of April, 2024 to 31st March, 2025, the minister said.

Regarding the killing of Ch Anand Kumar SDPO, Police Station Moreh by the militants on October 31, 2023, the Minister said that the state Cabinet has approved to appoint his son to the post of an Assistant Sub-Inspector and liberalized pension from the Home Department of the deceased.

Emphasizing the education sector, the State Cabinet has approved to appointment of 742 staff (teachers) of different categories on a contractual basis through the Samagra Siksha Abhiyan (SSA).

The minister further said after thorough scrutiny by the Agriculture and Home Departments, the State Cabinet has approved to sanction of Rs.18.91 crores for 3,483 verified affected farmers due to the ongoing crisis in the state. It was also decided that according to the Manipur Municipalities Act, the Health Officer, Engineer or Revenue Officer of any panchayat is to be appointed by the Government only.

The Cabinet also passed the Manipur State Commission for Women’s Rule 2024.
