An elected member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has decided to desert the BJP as a mark of protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, which was passed in the Lok Sabha on January 8.
In his letter to the BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh, Sofior Rahman, an MDC of the BJP from Balachanda constituency cited some personal problem for leaving the party while also opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016.
“I am against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016. It is totally against our indigenous people of Meghalaya and whole Northeast India,” he said.
Rahman was holding the post of state president of the Minority Morcha, BJP Meghalaya Pradesh.
