Four activists of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) in Golaghat district of Upper Assam were arrested on Wednesday following an FIR lodged by the railways for allegedly trying to damage rail tracks during Tuesday’s Assam bandh against the citizenship amendment bill.

The arrested activists have been identified as Pranjal Duwara (28), Ananta Gogoi (18) and Nayan Moni Tamuli (27) of Tengani and Puna Bora (50) of Naojan area who also happens to be the district secretary of KMSS.

The Borpathar police registered a case on the basis of an FIR lodged by government railway police of Bokajan under sections 120B, 143,109,283,307 and 353 of Indian Penal Code read with sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and sections 150 and 174 of Railway Act.

It is alleged in the FIR that the KMSS activists tried to damage the passenger train coming from Dibrugarh to Guwahati by igniting fire on the railway track thereby endangering the life of the passengers in between Jamuguri and Bilgaon station.

The arrested activists were produced before the court of the sub-divisional magistrate at Sarupathar and sent to one day police custody.
