Justice Dinesh Maheswari – who served as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court from February 24, 2016 to February 12, 2018 – was sworn in as a judge of Supreme Court on Friday. Along with Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Maheswari was administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi.

The apex court now has 28 judges against its sanctioned strength of 31. President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Justice Maheswari and Justice Khanna as judges of Supreme Court after the Government accepted the top court collegium’s recommendation on their elevation.

Before being elected as a judge of the top court, Justice Maheswari was serving as the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. Born on May 15, 1958, Justice Maheswari graduated with a degree in Physics from the University of Rajasthan and later did his graduation in Law from Jodhpur University.

Enrolling as an advocate in 1981, he practiced at the District Civil Courts of Jodhpur and High Court of Rajasthan at Jodhpur.
