Union minister of state for food processing Rameswar Teli on Wednesday said food processing industry has a good scope to grow in the Northeast and by harnessing its potential the unemployment problem of the region can be eased to a great extent.

The two-time MP from Dibrugarh and the only elected member from Assam to find a place in the Narendra Modi ministry arrived at Dibrugarh on Wednesday.

On his maiden visit to his home constituency after being sworn in as central minister, Teli was accorded a warm welcome by BJP MLAs, party leaders and functionaries as he landed at the Dibrugarh Airport.

“First I would like to thank our party workers. It is because of their hard work and dedication that today I have found a place in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ministry. Food processing is a new subject for me but I’m confident that I will be able to deliver my responsibilities,” Teli told reporters on Wednesday.

“There is good scope for the food processing industry in the entire Northeast and steps would be taken to harness this potential. In fact, food processing industry will be able to solve the unemployment problem to large extent. I’m confident that our unemployed northeastern youths will be able to find gainful employment from the industry,” Teli said.
