While the Assam Government is spending in crores for promotion of tourism by roping in Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra as the brand ambassador, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Embassy of Nepal, New Delhi jointly put an effort to give a fillip to the tourism industry of Nepal and Assam in a ‘zero cost’ way.

The Embassy of Nepal in collaboration with FICCI organized a seminar on ‘Tourism in Nepal’ at NEDFi Convention Centre in Guwahati on Thursday.

The seminar highlighted the opportunities available in tourism sector in Nepal and Assam which can boost the economy of both the region.

The Charge d’Affaires of Embassy of Nepal, Bharat Kumar Regmi emphasized the opportunities for investment and cooperation for Indian companies in the tourism sector in Nepal and invited the investors to invest.

“India and Nepal have been enjoying a good relationship from the vedic period. There is so much commonality between Nepal and Assam as far as tourism is concerned. The Kamakhya temple in Assam and Pashupatinath temple in Nepal- both are the most attractive religious pilgrimage sites,” he said.

He also said, “We have the highest peak in the world- the Everest in Nepal. People can visit Nepal for adventures, mountaineering, trekking, sky diving, bungee jumping and many more. Assam has been always a favourite tourist destination for Nepalese people.”

Regmi also highlighted the importance of foreign investment in tourism sector in Nepal and the steps taken by the Government of Nepal.

Umakant Acharya, Councillor-Fiscal, Embassy of Nepal, who was also present in the seminar, gave a detailed presentation highlighting the prospects and benefits of developing mutual packages for tourists from both the countries.

Assuring the support from the Government of Nepal to boost the business relation between both the countries, Acharya asked the investors to invest in the tourism sector in Nepal.

Meanwhile, Kausar J Hilaly, Managing Director, Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), while highlighting the Indo-Nepal relationship, said, “The economic cooperation can bring the people of both the countries much closer.”

Ashish Phookan, senior member of FICCI Northeast Advisory Council was also present in the programme.
