Festive mood grips Manipur, particularly in the Christian dominated areas, as the people celebrated Christmas in the run up to the New Year 2018 on Monday.

After their religious ceremonies, the people in their respective areas joined together for community feast while some continued to organise various events for the day.

Even the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) in association with Legal Aid Clinic, Cheirap Court Complex organized celebration of Christmas Festival -cum- One Day Legal Awareness Programme at two children’s homes-HESI Children Home at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai and Carmel Jyoti at Luwangsangbam in Manipur’s Imphal East district.

Acting Chief Justice N Kotiswar Singh of Manipur High Court, executive chairman, member secretary RK Memcha Devi of MASLSA, secretary Thokchom Hiralakpa Meitei of HESI Children Home, director Sister Regina of Carmel Jyoti, Luwangsangbam and Dr Vijaylakshmi Brara attended as chief guest and special invitees during the day’s celebration cum Legal Awareness programme wherein additional member secretary Ojesh Mutum of MASLSA and advocate Ch Momon Singh spoke on laws relating to Child Rights.

Gifts like blankets, socks, notebooks, and pens were distributed among the children during the occasion. The children of the Homes performed colourful activities on the occasion.

On the other hand Christmas celebrations were also reported from Laiching Meipou Baptist Church in Laiching Meipou village under Machi block in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district. The Minister appreciated the villagers for upholding the traditional customs and rituals of the forefathers.

Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Karam Shyam, revenue commissioner Th Chittaranjan Singh, director Ranjan Yumnam, deputy secretary (revenue) Rajen Singh and other officials attended the celebration.
