Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora on Thursday cautioned that exclusion of another one lakh people from the National Register of Citizen (NRC) lists may invite turmoil in Assam.

“This is a total injustice and unfortunate. We have been apprehending about the sincerity of the government. Earlier 40 lakh people have already been dropped and now another one lakh people have been excluded from the draft. This will create turmoil in the state,” said Bora.

A day after Assam government released an additional draft NRC lists containing names of 1, 02,462 people excluded from NRC, Bora said Congress will raise the matter in the parliament.  Name of these 1, 02,462 people were earlier included in the draft NRC published last year.

“Definitely we will raise the matter in the Parliament… Not a single Indian citizen should be dropped. Names of all Indian should be mentioned in the NRC list,” said Bora.

The final lists of NRC will be published on July 31.

While releasing the additional list on Wednesday, Assam government has said that the persons named in the additional lists are the people whose descendents were found to be declared foreigner or doubtful voter or whose cases were pending at Foreigners Tribunal (FT).
