The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) said it would reject any economic package in lieu of its demand for a separate state.

In a release on Friday, the ENPO, however, said it was not opposed to any economic package for the backward region of the state provided it was not given under its name.

The ENPO organised a public rally in Tuensang on July 12 demanding a separate “Frontier Nagaland” state for the six eastern districts of Nagaland.

While maintaining their commitment to the statehood demand, the people of six tribes –– Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Phom, Sangtam and Yimchunger under the aegis of ENPO, reiterated their “uncompromising stand” to firmly reject any form of economic package both by the Centre and the state in lieu of statehood demand which includes separate assembly, separate administration and capital of its own.

The ENPO said providing any top most special economic package for the development of ENPO areas would never reach the targeted area and the people.

Seven organisations of eastern Nagaland at a meeting on July 3 also reiterated their demand for a separate state of “Frontier Nagaland”.

Reaffirming their August 24, 2012 resolution wherein it was resolved that the demand for a separate state was “uncompromising”, the organisations said other than a separate assembly no other form of arrangement would be acceptable to the people of eastern Nagaland under the aegis of ENPO.

A joint statement signed by the presidents of these organisations after the meeting stated that it was also strongly resolved and reiterated that “in the process of any eventuality that may appear to be detrimental (externally/internally) in its movement by any individual/organisations, or, the safety of the ENPO leaders, tribal and frontal organisation leaders if threatened in any manner over the demand shall not be tolerated, and the public of Eastern Nagaland shall initiate stern action as deemed fit.”
