The district level science-based model competition for the Aryabhatta Science Centres of Udalguri held at Golamagaon HS School in Udalguri with a three-day long programme concluded on Saturday.
The event organized jointly by the Aryabhatta Science Centres and Udalguri district administration in collaboration with the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council, Guwahati (ASTEC) witnessed events like science-based model making, science-based poster drawing and science-based extempore speech competitions for the school students of the district.
Retired Inspector of Schools, Udalguri, Nabin Chandra Boro inaugurated the event which was graced as the chief guest by Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri, Dilip Kumar Das, who is also the chairman of the ASC, Udalguri.
Speaking on the occasion, Das shed light on the need of creating scientific temperament among children from early years. He said that it is the prime responsibility of the parents and the teachers to be the role model for their children so as to remove blind belief and superstitions from the minds of the students’ community.
“If parents and teachers continue to pursue primitive ideologies and superstitious beliefs, students can never build scientific temperament in themselves,” said  Das.
He requested the students to follow innovative people like Uddhab Bharali of Assam. Earlier, the District Coordinator of Aryabhatta Science Centres, Udalguri, Jayanta Kumar Das welcomed all the participants and distinguished guests.
The event, attended by child scientists from six blocks of the district viz. Kalaigaon, Khoirabari, Rowta, Bhergaon, Udalguri and Mazbat, was also attended by the Secretary of the District Academic Council, Ganesh Mushahari, Principal of Udalguri HS School, Puspadhar Bastula and the Headmaster of Golmagaon HS School, Gopal Chetri among others.
In the science model competition, Sanjana Hazarika and Meghna Dey of Arunodoi Academy, Tangla secured the first position while Sambit Chakravorty and Tonmoi Nath of MVM School, Tangla secured the second position.
In science-based extempore speech competition, Biswajyoti Bhardwaj of Eureka English School secured the first position while Risha Devi of RAME School secured the second position.
In the science-based poster drawing competition, Himani Nath of RIA School, Bhergaon, secured the first position while Asharani Debi of Sankardeb Sishu Niketan, Mazbat, secured the second position.The qualifying students will take part in the State level ASC activities to be held at Regional Science Centre, Khanapara on March 6 and 7 next.
