Assam government has planned to set up six tourist police stations in Guwahati and five national parks, including Kaziranga, to ensure security of tourists visiting the state.

“To ensure safety of tourists, our government proposes to establish six tourist police stations in Kaziranga, Manas, Dibru Saikhowa, Nameri and Orang National Parks and in Guwahati,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said in his budget speech on Monday.

He said a world-class botanical garden would be developed in Kaziranga. “I allocate Rs 8 crore in the budget for this purpose,” Sarma said.

He said the steering committee of the Union finance ministry has approved a proposal to construct a bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Panbazar with North Guwahati. The proposed cost of this project will be Rs 1,890 crore and with an implementation period of four years.

“In my last budget, I had earmarked Rs 100 crore for land acquisition and obtaining of relevant clearances/no objections. This year, we are allocating an additional Rs 150 crore to carry out the rest of the work so that the construction can start this year itself,” he said.

The budget provides for setting up a cyber dome in Guwahati and 35 cyber-crime police stations, one in every police district. The project aims to enhance technical intelligence collection along with digital forensics, data analysis and cyber security of digital infrastructure.

The special branch of Assam police has signed an MoU with National Technical Research Organisation, a premier technical intelligence gathering agency of the Centre, to start a state-of-the-art social media lab and training facility, Sarma added.
