Following the Maibang police incident recently, representatives of 28 different students and youth organisations of Assam, including All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) attended a meeting organised by the Dimasa Students’ Union (DSU) at Maibang in Dima Hasao on Monday.

During the meeting, the organizations asserted that Dima Hasao has been a part of Assam and would remain a part of the State in the future too.

The meeting was also attended by AASU chief adviser Samujjal Kr Bhattacharya and ABSU president Pramod Boro.

During the police firing at Maibang, the headquarters of Maibang Sub-division, on January 25, 2018, two protestors died and seven others were injured.

The police opened fire at the protestors at Maibang Railway Station, who had blocked train movement at Maibang as part of 12-hour-long Dima Hasao bandh in protest against proposed inclusion of Dima Hasao in Greater Nagalaim as reported in the media recently.

The meeting of the 28 organisations was held at the Disru Club field at 1.30 pm.

Apart from the representatives of different organizations, the meeting was also attended by more than 5000 locals.

While condemning the police firing at Maibang and killing of two persons, all the organisations decided to raise voice against police action against ‘innocent’ people of Maibang in the name of controlling protestors.

Jagdamba Mall – a veteran Rashtriya Sayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak, who has been active in Nagaland for over four decades – revealed details of a draft Nagaland peace plan that he drew up and circulated to the media where he claimed that Dima Hasao would be included in Greater Nagalim.

Speaking on the occasion, AASU leader Bhattacharya questioned, “Who is Jagdamba Mall to voice in matters of Assam? From where did he get rights to speak such things?

ABSU president Boro also hit out at the Assam government for the police firing which claimed two lives.
