The closing ceremony of the countrywide celebration of weeklong ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyaan’ was observed at different places of Darrang district.

On the occasion, the District administration, Darrang organized a function at Mangaldai College auditorium.

Deputy Commissioner of Darrang, Sweety Gogoi Kalita inaugurated the function by lighting a lamp in traditional way while Additional Deputy Commissioner and project director of DRDA, Pankaj Chakravarty inaugurated the closing programme.

In his inaugural speech, Pankaj Chakravarty highlighted the significance of the celebration of ‘Livelihood and Skill Development Divas’ and stressed on the need for women empowerment only to strengthen the foundation of the nation.

“Every women of Assam are known for their skill and talents in every sphere and even the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, during his visit to Assam highly appreciated the talents of Assamese women who can weave the dream in their traditional handloom,” he said.

Chakravarty further said that the government is determined to extend all possible help and guidance towards the all-round development of the women of the state.

He also made an appeal to all to come forward and avail the schemes initiated by the government.

Mangaldai Legislator Guru Jyoti Das, district BJP president Nilima Devi, district coordinator of Livelihood Mission Gautamananda Goswami also addressed the function.

Jan Sikshan Sansthan (JSS), under the Ministry of HRD at Mangaldai in collaboration with Hyper Sonic Education also observed the ‘Livelihood and Skill Development Divas’ with a daylong programme at Sipajhar.

In the function attended by more than three hundred beneficiaries at Sipajhar Sahitya Sabha Bhavan, Major Gurvinder Singh of Red Horns Division, President of Darrang Zila Sahitya Sabha, Dr Ram Chandra Deka, Director of JSS Sheikh Mohammed Amin, Banjit Das of Hyper Sonic Education attended the function.

All the beneficiaries were awarded certificate of participation in the function.
