Nagaland ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government seems to be all in a shambles ahead of the ensuing Assembly elections slated for February 27.

Amid growing political uncertainty in the poll-bound State of the North-east, the Janata Dal (United) on Monday broke its 15-year-old alliance with DAN which is led by Naga People’s Front (NPF).

Earlier the Bharatriya Janata Party (BJP), another partner in the ruling alliance, has already pulled out of the alliance and had announced that it will contest the upcoming elections with a pre-poll tie-up with newly formed National Democratic Political Party (NDPP) led by former State Chief Minister and present parliamentarian Neiphiu Rio.

The JD (U) on Monday announced it would contest the polls independently and will not have any pre-poll tie up.

However, the party is tight lipped over joining any party after the elections.

Alleging lack of governance during the last five years of the tenure of the DAN government in the State, the state unit of JD (U) also cited rampant in-fighting between NPF and BJP as the reason behind its backing out of the alliance.

Meanwhile, the NPF has declared that it will contest 58 seats out of the 60 seats in the State Assembly during the upcoming elections.

On the other hand, Nagaland Congress has already merged with the National People’s Party (NPP) led by Tura Lok Sabha MP Conrad Sangma at the NPP office in Dimapur on Monday.
