Local residents here on Sunday morning caught a couple from Chotoguma village along Assam-Bengal inter-state border in Dhubri district for their alleged involvement in human trafficking.

Amiruddin Miya and Anowara Bibi, residents of Chilakhana area in Coochbehar district of West Bengal, were nabbed by local residents when they were roaming around the village in a suspicious manner. Chotoguma village is around 50 km from Dhubri town.

They  later handed over the couple to police in the afternoon.

Police said the couple targeted uneducated youths and minors to take them to Delhi and other metro cities.

“Both have confessed their involvement in trafficking and revealed that they were in the business of trafficking for last couple of years,” a police official said.

They have allegedly trafficked a minor girl from Gaikhowa Paschim village under Golakganj PS in Dhubri district recently.

“A case of human trafficking has been registered against the couple at Golakganj PS in this connection,” police said. Police have rescued the minor girl from the clutches of the couple.
