The elite Counter Insurgency Jungle Warfare (CIJW) School of the Indian Army at Vairengte in Mizoram celebrated the 72nd Independence Day on August 14. Sounds surprising but true. A press communiqué issued by PRO (Defence) Guwahati Lt Col P Khongsai stated this.

“The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated at the Indian Army’s elite and world renowned Counter Insurgency Jungle Warfare (CIJW) School with great patriotism and fervor,” the release said.

The function was attended by the veterans from Mizoram as well as the prominent civil dignitaries, Veer Naris, local citizens and children of Vairengte.

The event included the honouring and unfurling of the National Flag by the Officiating Commandant which was followed by felicitation of the Veer Naris. The ceremony was followed by a weapons and equipment display, visit to the Information & Research Centre and Motivation Hall, the press communiqué said.

The local youth and children were greatly motivated by the display and they exhibited their exuberance to join armed forces to serve the nation. The event also included extending of medical facilities to the veterans.

Towards the end of the function, the Station Staff briefed the veterans on the latest benefits extended by the government and Indian Army and thanked them for their contribution to uplift the widows and  under privileged.
