The indefinite cease work strike by the state government employees of Manipur has affected the normal functioning adversely.

The strike is being called by Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Union’s Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees Organisation (AMGEO). Though employees are attending their respective office as usual, they are not indulging in any official work despite stern warning from the state Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The state government employees are staging the protest demanding implementation of Seventh Pay Commission recommendations.

The JAC, along with AMTUC and AMGEO have also sought a written assurance from the government as to by when the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations will be implemented.

Earlier, Chief Minister N Biren Singh had asked the workers to return to work, ‘failing which the government has to find other people to do their work’.

In this regard, a meeting of the administrative secretaries and heads of departments was also held on March 23 last in this regard and the government had authorized power to administrative secretaries of hiring competent persons to complete the piled up works of the financial year end if the JAC refuses to heed to his appeal.

Notably, the State Government requires additional financial expenditure of around Rs 1,400 crores per year if the Seventh Pay Commission recommendation is implemented in the State which has 98,845 government employees and 45,523 pensioners.
